Data logging

The C.Scope Data Logging products will automatically record and store data on how they are being operated (without any change to daily working practices). Over 12 months of data (in normal use) can be stored before being overwritten.

This data records exactly how the Cable Avoidance Tool/Locator/Signal Generator/Transmitter has been used, precisely when and for how long. The C.Scope Data Logging GPS products also provide a record of exactly where they have been used. All Data Logging models also record every automatic Daily Self Test undertaken. It is therefore possible to keep a full audit trail of both the activity of the unit and its functionality.

This stored data can then be transferred to a PC for analysis. The data can be utilised to show if the units have been used correctly, to assess actual operator behaviour and to identify any potential training requirements.

The C.Scope CXL4-D, CXL4-DBG, DXL4-D and DXL4-DBG Cable Avoidance Tools, the MXL4-D and MXL4-DBG Locators, the SGV4 Signal Generator and the MXT4 Transmitter all come with full data logging capability.

Data logging of operator activity

Over 12 months of data (in normal use) is automatically logged and stored by Data Logging products. A full audit trail is kept of all locating activity so that it is possible to see when the product passed self tests, which Modes have been used, when, and for how long.

The data logged includes:

– Locator/ Cable Avoidance Tool/ Signal Generator/ Transmitter Model Type
– Locator/ Cable Avoidance Tool/ Signal Generator/ Transmitter Serial Number
– Automatic Self Test result
– User Identity
– Date & Time of Use
– Detection Mode (Power – Radio – Generator/Transmitter – AllScan Modes)
– Signal Strength
– Signal Generator/ Transmitter Frequency
– Cable/ Pipe Depth
– Sonde Depth

The Data records saved on the cable avoidance tool can be retrieved, reviewed and analysed on a PC.

C.Scope’s free to download PC Toolkit allows the user to view the stored data-logs in the form of charts and graphs that illustrate all aspects of the use of the Cable Avoidance Tool/Locator/Signal Generator/Transmitter.

The data can be examined to verify whether the product has been used correctly.

This data is invaluable to identify any potential training requirements, as part of a routine company training audit or in the event of a cable strike.

Data transfer / retrieval

All Data records can be transferred directly from the Locator/ Cable Avoidance Tool/ Signal Generator/ Transmitter to a PC, smartphone or tablet via a variety of methods:

Data transfer from Cable Avoidance Tool/Locator/Signal Generator/Transmitter directly to PC via USB
Data from the Data Logging Locators can be transferred at any time to a PC, for immediate analysis and storage, via the data connection USB socket in the battery compartment. The data can then be reviewed and analysed using C.Scope’s PC Toolkit.

Data transfer from Locator to Smartphone or Tablet via Bluetooth™
Data from Bluetooth™ Data Logging Locators can also be transferred wirelessly at any time to a smartphone or tablet via a Bluetooth™ connection. You will need C.Scope’s free-to-download smartphone App, ‘C.Scope Relay’ to take advantage of this feature. These data logs can then be emailed remotely to a PC where they can be analysed using the C.Scope PC Toolkit. This provides a very practical method of instantly transferring data from the Locator while still on-site.

Data can be transferred live or it can be downloaded after a survey is complete. The App shows the locator data on maps and supports exports to Google Maps™ or Google Earth™ which can be viewed on most devices.

'PC TOOLKIT' & 'RELAY Smartphone App'

The C.Scope PC Toolkit is capable of storing and analysing data from a single product or a fleet of products. The PC Toolkit tabulates the downloaded data and then creates simple charts and tables that summarise the activity patterns. This can help to quickly identify correct or incorrect usage patterns and any potential training requirements.

The PC Toolkit also automatically checks and updates the firmware on your locator each time you use it. Therefore, we recommend that you regularly use the PC Toolkit with your locator to get the latest features and improvements from C.Scope. (XL4 Locators only)

The C.Scope PC Toolkit is FREE-TO-DOWNLOAD here.

Full operating instructions for the PC Toolkit are also available to download.

The C.Scope Relay App (CXL4-DBG, DXL4-DBG and MXL4-DBG model Locators only) allows immediate on-site transfer of data from a Locator via a smartphone or tablet to a PC. Data can be transferred live or it can be downloaded after a survey is complete. The App shows the locator data on maps and supports exports to Google Maps™ or Google Earth™ which can be viewed on most devices.
